For 2023, the Neighbour Day theme is “Create Belonging”. The US researcher and storyteller Brené Brown defines belonging as “the innate human desire to be part of something larger than us.” Australian social researcher Hugh Mackay writes, “The experience of belonging to a community enhances your feelings of physical safety and emotional security and enriches your sense of identity.”
