Neighbours Every Day

Neighbours Every Day, Relationships Australia’s social connection campaign, invites you to create, share and grow belonging in your community. For over 20 years, we have been inspiring people across Australia to build stronger, more resilient neighbourhoods through daily acts of connection and support. Research shows that when people feel they belong, their wellbeing improves and loneliness decreases.

This year’s theme, Belonging Every Day, is a call to action at two levels.

It starts with you: say hello, make the call, listen well, show up.
And it starts with us: make room, widen the circle, leave no one out.

Together, these small actions build lasting, respectful relationships that enrich all our lives.

The Neighbours Every Day campaign provides simple, practical tools to create belonging, every day of the year. Join us in transforming our communities, one connection at a time.

Strong communities start with you, and we want to celebrate the simple acts that grow belonging. Whether it is hosting a street party, starting a verge garden, or just saying hello – tell us your story in 25 words or less, in writing or on video, for the chance to win a prize.

Entries open 5 October and close 31 October 2026.
See the competition rules for video guidelines.

Competition Rules

  1. Entries must be a maximum of 25 words, or a video of the entrant speaking their 25 words or less. Videos must begin with a 5 second countdown before speaking and include 5 seconds of silence after speaking ends. Entries exceeding the word limit will not go into the draw to win a prize.
  2. Video entries must be filmed in vertical (portrait) format at 1080 x 1920px (9:16 ratio) so they are ready to share as social media reels.
  3. Wording or video content must be a description of ‘what Belonging Every Day looks like in your life or community’. Only respectful descriptions will go into the draw for a prize.

  10. Winners will be chosen by an online random selection app and no correspondence regarding the outcome will be entered into.

Tips for a great video entry:

You can speak to camera, or record footage of your street, garden or neighbours with your 25 words as a voice-over – whatever tells your story best. Just make sure you have consent from anyone you film. A few tips to help your entry look and sound its best:

  • Film vertically (portrait), not landscape, at 1080 x 1920px so it is ready for reels.
  • Find a quiet spot to film, away from wind, traffic or background chatter, so your words are easy to hear.
  • Face a light source (a window or the sun) rather than filming with it behind you.
  • Don’t want to appear on camera? You can use images or footage instead, with your voice as a voiceover.
  • Keep the camera steady – rest it on a table, fence or tripod if you can, rather than filming handheld.
  • Speak clearly and at a natural pace – there is no need to rush your 25 words.
  • Remember the 5 second countdown before you start speaking, and 5 seconds of quiet at the end.
  • Save and upload your video as an MP4 or MOV file.

Important notice for winners:

  • Competition winners will be contacted by Relationships Australia via email in November 2026 with the Bunnings eGift Card prize included in that email.
